Visitation for Marie Garrelts, 100, of Milford, will be from 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, until the 11 a.m. funeral service at the Knapp Funeral Home in Milford. The Rev. Matt Steendahl will officiate.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Milford. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. She passed away Thursday (Jan. 17, 2013) at her home.
Marie was born Sept. 9, 1912, in Milford, the daughter of Philip and Peterke Lucht Scherf. Her husband, Ernest A. Garrelts, whom she married Jan. 29, 1933, in Schwer, preceded her in death Sept. 22, 1974. Mrs. Garrelts was a member of St. John Lutheran Church at Schwer. She loved crocheting and crafting, and watching the Chicago Cubs.
She is survived by nine children, Phyllis Garner, of Watseka, Virgil (Dorothy) Garrelts, of Kankakee, LaVern (Putt) Garrelts, of Milford, Leslie (Janice) Garrelts, of Crescent City, Beverly Ponton, of Martinton, Wendell Garrelts, of Milford, Leon (Barbara) Garrelts, of Braidwood, Leroy (Sherry) Garrelts, and Larry "Butch" Garrelts, both of Milford; one son-in-law, C.J. McNash, of Georgia; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Pat McNash; two grandsons, David Garrelts and Justin Garrelts; two sons-in-law, Robert Garner and Kenneth Ponton; one daughter-in-law, Jeanine Garrelts; four brothers and three sisters.
