Dorothy S. Adomatis 71, of Carmel, was called home to the Lord December 4th. She died peacefully at home with her family by her side. She courageously battled ovarian and breast cancer for three years. Dorothy was born in Bad Axe, Michigan on February 20, 1938, to Albert and Ione (Hurford) Schantz. She graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1955 and later earned her bachelor's degree from Butler University. She met the love of her life while attending Greenville College, and she and Russell were married Aug. 18, 1956 in Bad Axe. Together they were foster parents to 38 children through the years, and she also helped instruct other families how to become foster parents. Dorothy was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and belonged to the Indiana World Organization of China Painters. One of her handpainted china place settings was made for Gov. and Mrs. O'Bannon. She also enjoyed gardening, knitting and was a member of Rockin' Bobbins Quilting Club. For 23 years she was active in Bible Study Fellowship, with roles as a Teaching Leader in the Women's Prison Ministry, a group leader, and a children's supervisor for the women's group. She was also a Sunday School teacher and youth group leader as well. Next to her faith in the Lord, her own family was the most important thing in her life. She loved her family and the activities they shared together. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Russell; children Cyndi Richards, Lori Rock (Jim), Jodi Burtner (David), Brandon Adomatis (Lisa); 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; sister Berdean Suprenant; brother Dale Schantz. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Verna Meldrum, and her son-in-law Dr. Mark Richards.
