Alfreda Anna Wilhelmina Schaffner Becker was born in Westhoff, Texas, on Feb. 1, 1913, to Charles and Ida Mueller Schaffner. She died in Temple, on Monday, March 23, 2009 at the age of 96 years. Her family moved from Westhoff to Wilson, Texas. She graduated as valedictorian from Wilson High School in 1931. She attended Texas Tech College for two years and received her teaching certificate. On Dec. 7, 1935, she married Wallace Becker. They lived in Southland, Texas, until 1952, when they moved to Slaton. She lived there until 2000, when she moved to Temple. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Slaton, being active in the Women's Organization, Quilting Club, and Sunday school.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. She is survived by her sister, Laurine Keeton McGee of Lubbock; and her brother, Carlton Schaffner, of Slaton. She is also survived by her daughters, Burdine (Ardene) Wuthrich, of Temple, Belinda (Ronald) Schmidt, of San Antonio, and Belva (Larry) Latshaw, of Abilene; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
