George H. Schafer dies suddenly
George H. Schafer of Petersburg passed away suddenly in the parking area at the Menard Medical Center on Wednesday, December 29 at 2:45 p.m. Mr. Schafer, who was 77 years old, had been under a doctor's care.

He was born near Tallula on November 13, 1894, the son of Herman [sic] and Meta Otten Schafer. he was a carpenter for many years and was a veteran of World War I. On June 17, 1922 he was united in marriage with Miss Ora Faith.

Surviving are his wife; one son, George H. Schafer, Jr., of Phoenix, Arizona; three daughters, Mrs. Harold Pringle of Belvidere, Mrs. Bob Ames of Rockford, and Mrs. Barbara Cirigliano of Phoenix, Arizona; one brother, Carl Schafer of Petersburg; two sisters, Mrs. Leonard Hibbs of Petersburg and Mrs. Louise Doris [sic] of East Peoria; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 2 at 1:30 p.m. at Satorius Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Billy Sexton, pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
