Fred W. Schafer died at home at 75
Fred W. Schafer, born near Tallula but a resident of Petersburg through most of his life, died at his home at 202 West Washington Street at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at the age of 75. Death followed a short illness.

Mr. Schafer was born near Tallula on July 24, 1890, a son of Herman and Meta Otten Schafer. For many years he was self-employed, doing field tile and carpentry work. He retired several years ago. A veteran of World War I, Mr. Schafer was a member of Kirby-Watkins Post, American Legion.

Surviving are three brothers, George, Carl and Edward Schafer, all of Peterburg; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Hibbs of Vermont, Ill,. and Mrs. Louise Davis of Fancy Prairie, and several nieces and nephews. His parents, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 5 at 2 p.m. at the Satorius Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Ronald Beaty. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
