CUERO - Mamie Bertha Augusta Berger, 87, of Cuero, died Monday, Nov. 20, 2006.
She was born June 18, 1919, in Mission Valley, to the late Walter and Elfrieda Nack Schaefer.
She was baptized, confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church in Arneckeville, and married in Zion Lutheran Church in Mission Valley. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and neighbor to all who knew her. She was an excellent seamstress and a "good" cook. She was a hard worker in farming and ranching and was a member of the Golly Community Club. She worked as a meat processor at Lambs, then for Harwell Meat Packing Plant. She was an active member in all aspects of church life: Sunday School teacher, choir member, Altar Guild, Ladies Aid, Dorcas and Ruth Circles, and a member of the Woman of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Our Moma and Granny was a woman that was loved, admired, and respected for her great faith in God. She will be deeply missed, but always remembered.
Survivors: daughters, Barbara Schmidt of Mission Valley, Pat Harper of Arneckeville, Peggy Lee of Victoria; son, Jerry Berger of Waco; sisters, Walley Young of Victoria, and Ruth Chase of Inez.
Preceded in death by: husband, Emanuel Robert Berger; son, Kenneth Wayne Berger.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Freund Funeral Home, Cuero.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Mission Valley, with the Rev. Couchman officiating.
Burial will follow at Mission Valley Cemetery, Mission Valley. Freund Funeral Home, Cuero, 361-275-2343.
Pallbearers: Gary Berger, Lindsey Ficklen, Heath Hoefling, Joshua Lee, Bradley Schmidt, Jeffrey Schmidt.
Honorary Pallbearers: Jenifer Berger, Pamela Ficklen, Stacey Hoefling, Tamara Lee, Michelle Samford, Raubin Schmidt.
Memorials: Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund, Mission Valley.
