Eleanor "Ella" Anna Schaefer, 95, of Carlinville died at 8:20 a.m. Friday, April 16, 1999, at Sunshine Manor.
She was born May 23, 1903, in Carlinville, a daughter of Albert and Mary Schaefer Kuerschen. She married John Schaefer May 9, 1923, in Carlinville; he died November 1, 1957. Also preceding her in death were five brothers, Al Hubert, Ted, Joe and Pat Kuerschen, and twin sisters, Marie and Margaret Kuerschen.
Mrs. Schaefer was a graduate of Carlinville High School and was associated with Schaefer's Jewelers for over 50 years. She was member of St. Mary & Joseph Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Macoupin Club.
Funeral Mass was said at 4 p.m. Monday, April 19, at St. Mary & Joseph Church with Father Dean Probst officiating. Organist Marion Haas accompanied the St. Mary & Joseph Choir.
Burial was in New Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Louis L. "Jack" Leonatti, Edwin J. "Butch" Schaefer, John Schaefer, Steve Schaefer, Greg Heinz, Barry Stuckey, Brad Mefford and Vince Mathias.
Heinz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Surviving are two daughter and sons-in-laws, Eleanor and Louis Leonatti of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and Dorothy and Edwin P. Schaefer of Carlinville; 12 grandchildren, Mrs. Barry (Linda) Stuckey of Carlinville, Louis "Jack" Leonatti of Mexico, Missouri, Edwin "Butch" Schaefer of Carlinville, Mrs. William (Marsha) Boeck of Chesterfield, Missouri, Mrs.. Greg (Peg) Heinz of Carlinville, Jean Leonatti of Columbia, Missouri, Mrs. Vince (Patti) Mathias of Carlinville, Mrs. Steve (Mary Beth) Seyler of Omaha, Nebraska, Paula Schaefer of Carlinville, John Schaefer of Plano, Texas, Steve Schaefer of Jerseyville and Michelle Leonatti and her husband, David Johnston, of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary & Joseph Church.
