Mrs. Frances C. Schaaf, nee Stemler, widow of the late Joseph Schaaf, died Tuesday night, Feb 6, 1912, at St. Alexander hospital, New Ulm, aged 76 years eight months and 4 days.
Mrs. Schaaf was born in Aschfeldon, Alsace, Germany, on May 17, 1835. She came to this country with her parents in 1839 and grew to womanhood in Philadelphia, Penn., where she married her late husband. Soon afterwards she and her husband came to Carver; county, where they settled on a homestead. In 1879 she with her husband, and familly moved to Swift county where they took up a tree claim on the northwest quarter of section 2, town 120, range 38 she resided there for twelve years, then removed to St. Paul where they resided eighteen years. Three years ago they removed to St. Alexander hospital where Mr. Schaaf passed away on March 29,1911 and she lingered until last Tuesday as above stated.
Mrs. Schaaf died as she had lived honored, trusted and loved. She reared her own monument while she lived in the hearts of all who knew her. Her christian life was beautiful from its beginning to its close, and through all the vicissitudes and sorrows that she met on the way, her faith in God never wavered. She was a true and consistent member of the Catholic faith. She was a sister of the late Valentine Stemler, for many years pastor of Assumption church, St. Paul.
She leaves to mourn her loss three sons, Joseph and Valentine of Murdock; John of Rockford, Wash; five daughters, Mesdames Mary Weber, Murdock; Otillie Frank, Delano; Cecilia Emerson, Seattle, Wash; Anna Dana and Emma V. Eberhart, St. Paul; 40 grandchildren and friends inumerable.
The remains were brought to St. Paul and the funeral services which consisted of a solemn high mass at St. Agnes Catholic church in that city. The interment took place at Calvary cemetery. A large concourse of people followed the remains to the cemetery.
