WILMINGTON, N.C. - Daisy E. Barber, 96, who resided with her daughter for six years at 919 Royal Bonnett Dr., Wilmington, N.C., formerly of Lewistown, died at 3:45 p.m., Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Wilmington.
Born October 6, 1915, in Yeagertown, she was the daughter of the late J. Herbert and Mabel E. (Hutchinson) Schaaf.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert L. Barber, December 16, 2006, and her brother, James Schaaf.
Daisy is survived by her daughter, Carol B. Whitehill, of Wilmington.
Early in life, she was employed at the American Viscose Corporation, Lewistown, and later was employed in the cafeteria and was a hall monitor at Chief Logan High School, retiring in 1961.
Daisy was a member of the Holy Communion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Yeagertown, for 80 years, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and a choir member for over 50 years.
She later joined St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewistown and attended the C.O.S. Episcocal Church with her daughter for six years in Wilmington.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 120 N. Main St., with the Revs. Gary A. Roth and Dean Rupe officiating. Private interment will be in Mt. Rock Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Daisy's memory can be made to St. John's ELC, 120 N Main Street, Lewistown, PA 17044.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown.
