Louise Schaad:

Louise Schaad was born the daughter of Charles and Marietta (Hildreth) Abernathy on Tuesday, January 29, 1918 in Portland, Oregon. Louise was raised in Dundee, Oregon until the age of fourteen when she chose to move to Portland to attend high school. She was very self reliant and worked as a housekeeper in several private homes until graduation from high school. On June 6, 1937 she married Elmer Schaad in Newberg, Oregon, and they made their home on Parrett Mountain. In 1940, they started their own farm where she worked alongside of Elmer. Together they raised three children, and she was a very caring mother. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newberg. Louise was an excellent cook, and she took pleasure in teaching others how to can fruits and vegetables and also bake. After retiring from farming in 1998, Louise and Elmer moved to their new home in Newberg. They enjoyed traveling, especially to Palm Springs, California and Yuma, Arizona. Louise loved gardening and raising plants and flowers in her greenhouse. She was an avid knitter, enjoyed reading, and learned how to swim when in her sixties. For the last four years Louise resided at Friendsview Retirement Community where she died on Sunday, February 10, 2013. Just two weeks earlier she celebrated her 95 th birthday with her family. Surviving and left to honor her life are: her daughter, Beverly Kiltz of Saratoga, California; two sons, Richard of Newberg and Donald of Vancouver, Washington; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and those who have come to know and appreciate her where she has lived and worked. Her husband Elmer and her parents Charles and Marietta preceded her in death. Her Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 23, 2013, at 3:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church in Newberg, with Rev. Dr. Robert Flaherty officiating. Arrangements are in the care of Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel, a Golden Rule Funeral Home.
