Stanley David Schaad, 83, of Aurora, died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, in a Canby care center.

He was born Feb. 24, 1926, in Newberg, one of 11 children of William F. and Lucy M. Werth Schaad. After graduating from Newberg High School, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He then earned a Bachelor of Arts in horticulture at Oregon Agricultural College, now Oregon State University.

A licensed nurseryman, he farmed 82 acres of flowers, berries, fruits and filberts. During the winter, he did carpentry, building and remodeling homes.

He was a member of the Pacific Nut Growers Association and the Rhododendron Society and served many years at [sic as] treasurer of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 156 of Wilsonville. He enjoyed rock hounding.

Survivors include his brothers Carl W. of Potomac Falls, Va., and Lawrence W. of Aurora.

Four sisters and four brothers preceded him in death.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m. at Aurora Community Cemetery.
