Emerson—At Italy Hill, August 14, 1920, Mrs. Mary Ann Emerson.
She died at the home of her son William, after nearly two months' suffering from a fractured hip. Mary Ann Scarlett, daughter of William and Elizabeth Scarlett, was born August 17, 1830, at Knodishal, Suffolk, England.
In 1849 she married Phillip Emerson and to them ten children were born, three of whom died in infancy. In 1871 they came to America and settled near Italy Hill. Her husband died in 1896. She leaves seven children: Harry, William and Fred Emerson and Mrs. Emily Paddock, of Italy Hill; Mrs. Fanny Yonge, of Pulteney; Arthur J. Emerson, of Earls; and Charles S. Emerson, of Middlesex; she is also survived by thirty-four grandchildren and seventeen great-granchildren.
The funeral was held from the Italy Hill Baptist church on the 90th anniversary of her birth. The services were conducted by Rev. L. L. Swarthout, of Lima, N. Y., a former pastor of the deceased.
