TUPELO – Bessie Barnes, 73, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born July 31, 1940, to Bedford and Susie Mae Hardin Scales. She attended Carver High School. Upon retiring, she was employed as a dialysis technician with North Mississippi Medical Center. She was a member of St. Paul UMC Church. She loved everyone she came in contact with; but most of all, she loved her family.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at St. Paul UMC Church with the Rev. Gloria McKinney officiating and the Rev. Dr. George Pulliam delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery. N.L. Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband and her love of 43 years, the Rev. Jimmy Barnes; one son, Anthony (Angeline) Barnes; two grandsons, Christian and Caleb Barnes; one granddaughter, Avery Barnes; one brother, Bedford Scales Jr.; one sister, Barbara Trice; and nieces, Debra Boggan, Brenda Scales and Sonja.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. and family hour will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service Tuesday at the church.
