"De Etta Love (Swinehart) Sayers of Austin passed away after a lengthy illness on July 13, 2010. She was born in Bristol, Indiana on December 13, 1919. De Etta is survived by Russell Eugene Sayers, husband of 69 years, daughters Maridee Etta Sayers Ward, Virlie Kay Sayers Cain and grandson Patrick Ward. Other survivors include her sisters: DeLores (Swinehart) Adams, DeLoscia (Swinehart) Sabey, and DeLilah (Swinehart) Houseworth, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her special talent was teaching students to whom she gave her heart and soul. De Etta taught at: Highland Park Elementary, Porter Jr. High, Austin High School, and Lanier High. She was actively involved in the following: St. John's Methodist Church, University Methodist Church (where she taught Sunday School and vacation Bible School), Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Life Member of Texas Retired Teachers Association, Austin R.T.A., AARP, NEA, TSTA and a founding member of the Austin Poetry Society...."
