Head of Family of 83 Succumbs

Mrs. Josephine Saxton, 93, Cooperstown, leaves many survivors

Cooperstown. Aug. 10 – Mrs. Josephine Amelia Saxton, 93, died yesterday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lucien H Bowen, 4 Walnut street.
The daughter of William and Mary Bloodgood Son, she was born May 6, 1839 in the town of Maryland and lived her entire life in Otsego County. At the age of 18 she married James W. Saxton of Westville and resided there until Mr. Saxton's death, May 9, 1919, when she moved to Cooperstown, where she had since lived.
At her death she headed a family of 83 living members, nine sons and daughters, 89 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.
The names of her surviving children are: J.B. Saxton, mrs. Edwin Smith, Mrs. Lucien Bowen of Cooperstown; Mrs. Annie J. Cornish, westford; Mrs. Isaac Russel, Otego; George O. Saxton, Westville; Charles L. Saxton, Oneonta; Grover Saxton, Oneonta and James Saxton, of phoenix mills.
The funeral is Friday afternoon from the Bowen home and 2 p.m. from the Westville Methodist Episcopal Church of which she was a member. Rev. M. R. Ripley, milford and Rev. W.H. Alger, laurens will officiate. Internment will be in family plot in Westville cemetery.
