Mrs. Jack (Sue Savage) Bradford

Mrs. Jack (Sue) Bradford, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 25, 2003 in Parks Methodist Retirement Village in Odessa, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday in First Baptist Church Chapel, Abilene, with Rev. Malcolm Brown officiating, assisted by Dr. Ray Ellis. Burial will be 2:30 pm in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sweetwater, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Sue was born Feb. 14, 1918 in Roswell, N.M., where she graduated from high school and was a 1940 graduate of Hardin-Simmons University. She married Jack C. Bradford on July 19, 1945 in Albuquerque.

A former 50-year resident of Sweetwater, Sue Bradford and her late husband, Jack, established the Bradford Insurance Agency in Sweetwater in 1950. They also owned The Bradford Land and Cattle Company where they raised registered Hereford cattle. Sue moved to Abilene in 1994 from Sweetwater and was a member of First Baptist Church, Abilene Woman's Club, Board of Development at HSU, Ex-Cowgirls Association at HSU and former secretary of that association.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John B. and Clara (Elmore) Savage and her husband, Jack C. Bradford (8-23-88).

Surviving relatives include three nieces, Sally Sanford and husband, Robert, of Odessa, Norma Jane Samuelson of Calif., and Martha Lee Webb of Kan.; nephew, Dr. John C. Henry and wife, Glenda, of Roswell, N.M.; and cousin, Nelda Thompson of Lubbock.

Pallbearers will be great-nephews, Chad Hall, Chase Hall, Clint Hall, Hart Mowry, John David Henry, Michael Henry and Rob Sanford.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. & Mrs. James W. Baker and Mr. & Mrs. J. C. VanDever of Sweetwater and The Sewing Club and their spouses.

Memorials may be made to The Jack and Sue Bradford Memorial Scholarship Fund, Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, TX 79698.
