Rua (Sasser) Baker age 87 of St. Joe, Arkansas passed away on Friday, June 19, 2008 at the Hilltop Nursing Center in Harrison, Arkansas. Rua was born near Bruno, Arkansas on August 27, 1920. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Geneva (Pyle) Sasser. Rua was Church of Christ by faith, a homemaker, and a cook for the Bruno School for many years and she also worked for the Mar-Bax Shirt Company for several years before her retirement. She was married to Gerald Baker on May 27, 1939.
Rua is survived by five sons; Leonard Dale Baker and his wife; Demoy of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Coy Baker and his wife; Linda of Pindall, Arkansas, Jerry Baker and his wife; Jean of Everton, Arkansas, Kenny Baker and his wife; Hattie of Everton, Arkansas and Don Baker and his wife; Vicki of Yellville, Arkansas
Three daughters; Mary Willis and her husband Jerry of Pindall, Arkansas, Joyce Saling and her husband; Loyce of St. Joe, Arkansas and Connie Willis and her husband; Bob of Pindall, Arkansas. One step-daughter: Debbie Baker Snow of Valley Springs, Arkansas.
Two brothers Jimmy Joe Sasser and MacArthur Sasser both of Yellville, Arkansas. Four sisters; Velva Rice of Topeka, Kansas, Clarice McNair of Bruno, Arkansas, Billie Hill of Springdale, Arkansas and Layne Milligan of Yellville, Arkansas. Rua is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald, two brothers; Arlis (Whitey) Sasser and Jay I. Sasser and grandson; John Willis and a granddaughter; Kelly Baker.
Visitation will be held at the Burns Funeral Home in Yellville on Sunday, June 22, 2008 from 6-8 pm. Services will be held on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Burns Funeral Home Chapel with Jimmy McCutcheon officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons; Mitchell Baker, Wayne Willis, Steven Baker, Keith Swafford, Mike Baker, Jeff Baker, James Willis and Craig Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be her remaining grandchildren. Interment will be in the Anderson Flat Cemetery.
