Longtime Alaska resident LILLIAN M. KOUTCHAK, 84, died June 4, 2000, at Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage. A one-hour visitation was held at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E St. A service followed with burial at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Koutchak was born Lillian Mary Sarren on April 3, 1916, in Egavik, to Mary and Saggen Sarren. In 1937 she met and married her husband, Richard, in neighboring Unalakleet. Both being sled dog mushers, they had 56 dogs between the two of them. Her family said that Mrs. Koutchak enjoyed hunting with her husband, berry-picking and traditional Native dancing. Mrs. Koutchak enjoyed Alaska so much that she never, ever ventured outside of the state.

Mrs. Koutchak is survived by her son, Fred; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Robin, Jordan and Jeanne; grandchildren, Elizabeth Koutchak, Charlene Koutchak, Nan Koutchak, Linda Yingling and Steven Toms; and great-grandchildren, Tabitha, Brenton and Christine. Mrs. Koutchak was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 1970; and by her children, Teddy, Jimmy, Dorothy, Joseph Randall, James Frederick and Muriel Amy. The family wrote, ''Lillian leaves behind many relatives and friends from the Unalakleet area as well as Anchorage and her thoughts were always with them. She hoped that she was in their thoughts as well. Arrangements by Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E St., Anchorage.
