Merrill May (Sargent) Callender, Age 91,
died peacefully in Springfield, Virginia, on Saturday, June 28, 2014.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in July 1922 to Henry and Edith Sargent.
Merrill was a longtime resident of Everett, Massachusetts before she and her husband moved to live near their son and his family in Virginia in 2000.
She worked for the National Park Service's regional office in Boston for many years before retiring in 1993 and was an active member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Cambridge.
Merrill was predeceased in 2006 by Allen Ansley, her husband of 60 years, and an infant son, Paul Frederick, in 1947.
She is survived by her beloved children,
Steve of Springfield, Virginia
and Linda of Goodyear, Arizona, their spouses Julie Clark and Richard Isaac,
and her three grandchildren whom she loved deeply,
Catherine and her husband Kartick Subramanian of Lorton, Virginia, Christopher of Burke, Virginia,
and Rebecca, of Springfield, Virginia.
In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Sylvia Burke of York, Maine, and Edna Greene, of Cambridge, Massachusetts,
her dear nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Visiting hours with the family will be on Wednesday, July 2, from 6-8 pm and Thursday, July 3, from 10-11 am, followed by the 11 am funeral service, all at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 838 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, Massachusetts. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, Massachusetts.
