Blanche Sapaugh was born on August 23, 1902, in Texarkana, Arkansas (Miller County), the daughter of Russell Hugh Sapaugh and Ida Strickland. Blanche was the eldest of seven children. Her younger siblings were Floyd, Orvis, Audrey, Iris, Dale, and Thomas. There may have been another son named Richard who was born May 20, 1923 and died November 12, 1923 and buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Texarkana, Arkansas (Miller County). Blanche, like most women of that era, was a good cook. She made wonderful datenut loaf candy every Christmas along with jam cakes and homemade breads. Even though she cooked on a wood burning cook stove for many years, she still found time to read, especially books relating to history. Her favorite color was lilac or purple and she loved to cultivate African Violet plants of that color. Blanche always brightened her home with house plants and usually had a flower garden to liven the outside as well. Blanche married Woodson Perry Henderson, son of Arnold Patterson Henderson and Ollie Dale Stephens, on October 29, 1927 in Little River County, Arkansas. She and Woodson had three children: Albert Wade Henderson, born March, 1931, Larry Allen Henderson, born July 5, 1933, and David Bruce Henderson, born March 24, 1939. Blanche lost her brother, Dale, on August 25, 1932, when he was only 13. He was buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Texarkana. Her father passed away in 1951 and was buried in the same cemetery. Blanche was a member of the Calvary Nazarene Church and the Kumjoynus Sunday Class. She died at the age of 79 on September 10, 1981, at the Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City and was buried in the Whisler Cemetery, in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was survived by her three sons, Albert Wade, Larry, and David; stepdaughters Roberta Work and Ollie Boulton; two brothers, Floyd and Tom Sapaugh; two sisters, Iris Moon and Audry Thomas; 12 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
