Maria Estefanita Sandoval, age 85, formerly of Aurora, N.M., entered the gates of Heaven on Feb. 15, 2009, at Lovelace Hospital in Albuquerque following a short illness.
She was a loving mother, mother-in-law and grandmother who loved having her children and grandchildren around at all times. Her favorite pastimes were baking bizcochitos for the family, embroidering blankets for her grandchildren, making pillowcases and dish towels for her daughters and daughters-in-law.
Her favorite words were "I love you." No phone call or goodbye was ever over until she spoke those three loving words.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Anita and Sabino Madrid, her husband Elfigo Sandoval, her son Johnny, grandson Joseph Vargas, brothers Sabino Madrid and Alfonso Madrid.
She is survived by her nine children; Jose Telesfor Sandoval and wife Rose of Aurora, N.M.; Sylvia Madrid and husband Ruben of Colorado; Mary Hernandez and husband Arnoldo of Carlsbad, N.M.; Rosina Timmons and husband Juan Aguilar of Liberal, Kan.; Lupe Lucero and husband Archie of Albuquerque; Roberto Sandoval and wife Luiciada of Mesa, Ariz.; Ernesto Sandoval and wife Germaine of Coruco, N.M.; Alberto Sandoval and wife Susan of Liberal, Kan.; Ricky Sandoval and wife Jennifer of Ribera, N.M.; Brothers Eutemio Madrid from Las Vegas, N.M., and George Madrid of Clovis, N.M.; 37 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and two more on the way; many godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Rosary devotional services will be conducted on Tuesday at 7 p.m., with public viewing at 6:30 p.m. at Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors Drive S.W., Albuquerque, N.M.
A second rosary will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in VIllanueva, N.M. with father John McKenna as celebrant. Interment will follow at the cemetery in Villanueva with the following serving as casket bearers; Christopher Lucero, Johnny Madrid, Conrad Sandoval, Mark Hernandez, Ernie Sandoval, Albert Sandoval, Elfigo Sandoval, Jeffrey Madrid, Gerard Hernandez, Archie Lucero, Michael Sandoval and Carlos Sandoval.
Serving as honorary casket bearers are the remaining grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
