Daisy P. Sanders
Daisy P. Sanders, longtime resident of Ponca City, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was 86.
The funeral will be held graveside 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2000, at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery with Bishop Craig Barker of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating. Arrangements will be conducted by the Trout Funeral Home.
Daisy was born Aug. 14, 1913, in Nowata to Henry James and Mary Ann (Petty) Welch. She attended Marland schools and, at the age of 14, worked at the 101 Restaurant and Hotel.
She was united in marriage on Jan. 11, 1930, in Newkirk to Gordon F. Sanders. During World War II, she helped in the war effort by passing out rations and by uniting farmers to turn in their old scrap metal, tires, and used batteries. She worked at St. Joseph Hospital during the 1950's on the OB floor.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served in all five points, Salt Fork Home Demonstration club, Old Timers Association, and served as a Sunday school teacher for the 101 Ranch. She held seminary in her home and was mom to many young missionaries serving her church.
Survivors include one son, Noel Sanders and his wife Charlene; one daughter, Noella Harman and her husband Todd; daughter-in-law Margarette Sanders, all of Ponca City; six grandchildren, David Sanders, Brenda Green, Glenda Sanders, Juinta DeHeart, Lance Matthews, and Eric Matthews; and six great-grandchildren, Donnie Sanders, Charles G. Sanders, Shanon DeHeart, Charlie Bill DeHeart, John DeHeart, and J.C. Green.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gordon on Sept. 22, 1991; son, Charles G. Sanders on December 13, 1998; daughter, Lois Thompson and her son Adam on March 14, 1973; granddaughter, Elizabeth Sanders on June 3, 1956; and 12 brothers and sisters.
