MRS. J. CARLSON OF LINDSTROM DIES SUNDAY MORNING Funeral Services Were Held Today for Venerable Citizen
Death claimed another beloved resident of this community Sunday morning when Mrs. John X. Carlson, age 82, passed away at her farm home two miles south of Lindstrom. The end came at 4:20 a.m. following a pneumonia illness of only a short duration. She had first taken ill Friday night. Previous to this she had been in excellent health.
Funeral services for this venerable lady, who came here as early 1880 [sic], were held today from the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church of Center City with Rev. C. E. Slatt officiating.
Pallbearers were: Oscar Lindstrom, P. W. Kroone, Gust Swenson, Ed Johnson, P. G. Johnson and J. W. Linn. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
The deceased, whose maiden name was Johanna C. Sandberg was born at Ore, Kronoberg's Lan, Smoland, Sweden, January 30, 1855 and came to this country in the year 1880. She was 22 years of age when she arrived in this community on midsummer day that year. After working in Minneapolis for one year she was married to John X. Carlson of Chisago Lake at the Center City Church. The couple settled on the old home farm 2 miles south of here where she had resided since. Her husband died June 30, 1915. The deceased was a member of the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church since 1882 being one of the last of the early church goers there.
Left to mourn her passing are the following children: Mrs. Gustaf F. Johnson residing on the home farm; Arvid Carlson and Mrs. J. J. Noren of Chisago City, five grandchildren, Elvira, Vernette and Rudolph Noren and Ruth C. and Lucille Carlson, one sister Mrs. Brink of Minneapolis and one brother, John Sandberg of Langford, South Dakota.
The memory of the deceased is that of a kind and considerate mother, a good friend and one whose noble character will ever be a guide and inspiration to those she has left behind.
