Nina Garcia
1921-2008

Nina S. Garcia, a resident of Belen, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 9. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Nina was a homemaker and mother of eleven children. She worked for the Foster Grandparent Program for many years, serving the former Los Lunas Hospital and Training School and the Belen Schools helping the developmentally disabled.

Nina enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She was an avid reader, reading five to six books per week. Nina liked country music and enjoyed socializing with her friends at the Belen Senior Citizens Center. She had a great outlook on life and was strong and courageous even to the end. Nina will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe I. Garcia; father, Demetrio C. Sanchez; mother, Ramoncita Sanchez; two daughters, Lorena Paul and Louella King; her son, Joseph Michael Garcia and his wife, Pamela and her grandson, Brian Sanchez. Nina is survived by her eight loving children, Gloria Massey and her husband, Virgil of Clovis, JoAnne Trujeque and her husband, Harry of Rio Communities, Victoria Maestas of Los Lunas, Beverly Castillo of Belen, Raymond Garcia and his friend, Mildred Gonzales of Belen, George Anthony Garcia of Los Chavez, Yvonne "Bonnie" Rael and her husband, Everett of Rio Communities and Zachary Garcia of Rio Communities; many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many other loving family members and friends.

A visitation will be held at Romero Funeral Home, on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 3:30 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 4 p.m. by Deacon Robert Sanchez. Interment will take place at a later date.
