Agripina M. Sanchez, age 97, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, N.M. an former resident of Trujillo, N.M. passed away on Sunday, Nov.11, 2007, at the Brook-haven Nursing Home following an extended illness.
She was born in San Antonio, N.M., on June 23, 1910, to the late Jose Montoya and Bonifacia Ortiz Montoya and was united in marriage to the late Carlos Sanchez.
She was a 20-year volunteer with the Foster Grandparents. Some of her duties included working at the West Las Vegas High School Home Economics Department and Day Care Centers. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading and taking care of her grandchildren. She was known to be very helpful to neighbors and friends by translating legal documents from Spanish to English.
A lifelong Catholic, she was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Jose and Bonifacia Montoya; husband: Carlos Sanchez; sisters: Andelecia Sanchez and Sister Celine Montoya; brother: Miguel Montoya; daughter: Pauline Sanchez; sons: Joe and Leroy Sanchez; grandson: David Griego and son-in-law: Antonio Griego.
She is survived by her daughters and sons: Guadalupe Griego of Albuquerque, Lucy Otero and husband Manuel of Las Vegas, N.M., Benjamin Sanchez and wife Thelma of Pueblo, Colo., Tony Sanchez and wife Rose of Espaņola, N.M., Annabelle Sandoval of Albuquerque, Louie Sanchez and wife Barbara of Las Vegas, N.M., Manuel Sanchez and wife Isabel of Albuquerque, Karl Teo Sanchez and wife Maria of Las Vegas, N.M., and Angela Sanchez Pope and husband Matthew of Los Alamos, N.M.; 27 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren; brother: Gabriel Montoya of Oakland, Calif; numerous: nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Rosary devotional services will be conducted on Wednesday evening at 7 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday morning at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father C. John Brasher as celebrant. Interment will follow at the Mt. Calvary cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers: Carlos C. Griego, Richard P. Griego, Michael R. Griego, Kenneth D. Griego, Benjamin Sanchez II, Marcos Sanchez, Chris Sanchez and Stephen Sandoval. Serving as honorary bearers will be : Antonio D. Griego, Leroy Sanchez, Carlos Sanchez, Marcos D. Sanchez, Chris Pope and Patrick Pope.
She will lie in state at the Rogers Chapel on Wednesday all day until 5 p..m. where family and friends may call.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Sorrows Church Air Conditioning and Heating Fund, 403 Valencia St., Las Vegas, N.M.
