Another find a grave volunteer found that the official record of deaths for Hillsdale, Michigan has her death listed as Dec. 14, 1891. Clearly that record is a mess. The dates don't correspond with the order of the entries and at the far right of the page it appears that all of the information was entered months later all at once. On the obituary that was sent to me by a volunteer it says "Date of Death" Aug. 14, 1891..which goes along with the obit stating that she had returned home in May..and then she wrote the date of the obituary as Apr. 18, 1891 instead of Aug. 18th, 1891 but I am going to clarify it with the MRC.

The Mitchell Research Center confirmed that the obituary appeared in the Hillsdale Standard on page 5 on August 18, 1891.
DEATH NOTICE-HILLSDALE STANDARD-August 18, 1891
Eva, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Sampson died at the family home on West Street Friday noon last after a lingering illness of consumption. Deceased returned from California in May last where she had been in hopes of regaining her health. She was 22 years of age. The funeral was held from the house Sunday afternoon at 11 o'clock and her remains were laid to rest in Oak Grove Cemetery.
