Shirley M. Dhom, 90, of Woodstock, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Valley Hi Nursing Home in Woodstock.
She was born Sept. 5, 1922, in Woodstock, to Herman and Margaret (Bauer) Salzman. She married Lawrence C. Dhom on Nov. 8, 1947, in Woodstock.
Mrs. Dhom was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Woodstock and was a graduate of St. Mary High School. She was very active in the church, participating as a member of the Mariola Club and the church choir.
She had been employed as a secretary with School District 200 for many years until her retirement.
After retirement, she volunteered with Hospice of Northeastern Illinois.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence C. Dhom of Woodstock; children, David C. (Maribeth) Dhom, Mary Godwin and Peggy (Larry) Smith, all of Woodstock; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Dhom; grandchildren, Brian Dhom, Rebecca Dhom, Phil (Maggie) Dhom, Bridget (Chris) Phillips, Eric Dhom, Maggie Dhom, Clare Dhom, Chris (Kara) Godwin, Emily (Aaron) Gay, Molly (Jake) Freely, Casey (Amy) Godwin, Scott Smith, Sarah Smith, Lindsay (Todd) Loehner and Lauren Hoadley; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Reeb and Marge (Ronald) Lipinsky; and a brother, Robert (Phyllis) Salzman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Patricia J. Dhom; son, Lawrence E. Dhom; son-in-law, Michael Godwin; and brother-in-law, Leonard Reeb.
The visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock. The visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until the funeral Mass celebration at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Woodstock.
The family would like to express its gratitude to the entire Valley Hi staff, as well as all of the hospice personnel, and asks that memorials be made to Hospice of Northeastern Illinois. Memorial Masses also would be appreciated.
