OTTAWA — Ernest Salvati, 94, of Ottawa, passed away Monday morning, Sept. 19, at Pleasant View.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at Gladfelter Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Guthrie officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park where full military rites will be accorded by the Ottawa Veterans Group. Visitation will be from noon until the service time at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Ernest was born July 13, 1917, in Toluca, a son of Dominic and Lucille Salvati. He married Treva Bednar on Jan. 13, 1943, in Fort Smith, Ark. She survives.
He also is survived by his daughter, Victoria Johnson of Ottawa; a granddaughter, Tracy (Michael) Jonassen of Ottawa; two great-grandchildren, Chelsie and Zachary Jonassen of Ottawa; and several nieces and nephews.
Four brothers, Fred, Tony, Leo and Chester, as well as three sisters, Anna, Sue and Gilda, preceded him in death.
Ernest was formerly employed by Libbey-Owens-Ford. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Ernest enjoyed going to the riverboats and was an avid Cubs fan. His most enjoyable times were those spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
