Adele Ruth Goodnough of Moscow died Monday, March 28, 2011 at Good Samaritan Village. She was 97.
Adele was born March 25, 1914 at Caldwell, Idaho to Arthur and Mabel Stites Salisbury. She grew up and attended school at Homedale and Marsing, ID, attending the Edison Country School near Marsing. Adele moved into Caldwell and lived with relatives during her high school years. She helped care for the family for her room and board and graduated from high school at Caldwell. Adele enrolled at St. Joseph School of Nursing in Lewiston, graduating as a registered nurse in 1939, worked at Gritman Hospital for a time, and then returned to Southern Idaho and taught nursing at Good Samaritan Hospital in Nampa and later moved to Buckley, WA.
Adele came to Moscow in the early 1970's and went to work at Gritman Hospital. On June 29, 1973, she married Harvey T. Goodnough in Moscow. They made their home in Moscow where Adele continued working and later volunteered for home health. Harvey died in January of 1995 and Adele continued to maintain her home until moving to Good Samaritan Village several years ago.
Adele was an active member of the Moscow Church of the Nazarene where she was involved in Mission Work, enjoyed singing and was a member of a prayer group for over 30 years. She and Harvey enjoyed bowling and bowled on leagues and she also enjoyed reading.
Adele is survived by a sister, Doris Blevins of Paul's Valley, Oklahoma and step-children, Margaret and Bob Huggins of Weston, OR and William and Sharon Goodnough of Hines, OR. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Adele was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Roberts and Lenore Goodnough and two brothers, Lyman and Milton Salisbury.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at Short's Funeral Chapel with Pastors Dick Salisbury ( her nephew) and Ed Eby of the Nazarene Church officiating. Adele will be laid to rest with Harvey at the Albion Cemetery later in the spring.
Memorials are suggested to The Hope Center in Moscow.
