He was the son of Anthony St. Leger and Mary Scott. "Mary Scott had four sons and a dau. by her first husband, but no children by Sir Alexander Culpeper. Her eldest son was that Sir Warham St. Leger (1579-1632) who commanded his own ship in Raleigh's Guanna expedition of 1618 and in consequence of the losses then incurred was obliged to sell Leeds Castle. Of his thirteen children recorded in the Stemmata St. Leodigaria, the three youngest are of special interest to Virginia...."
"He was knighted 13 June 1608, was a member of the Virgini Company and subscriber to the Third Charter, 1611/12, and was an officer in Sir Walter Raleigh's ill-fated expedition to Guianna, 1617-18, commanding his own ship the Thunder with 76 men and 20 guns."
