SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN

Charles Henry Safken was born in at Vadel in Germany, on 7 January 1873. He was born to George Henry and Margarette (Butter) Safken. George stood 5'7 1/2" in height, with fair complexion.

On 9 May 1898, at Lincoln in Nebraska, George was inducted into the United States Army. He served with Company "E", 2nd Nebraska Volunteer Infantry. On 24 October 1898, at Omaha in Nebraska, George was honorably discharged as a Private.

About 1900 Charles married Elizabeth Safken, which ended in divorce.

Then on 17 March 1918, at Lewis County in Washington, George married Anna M (Wise) Jargen. This lasted until 1940, when Anna passed away.

While a resident of the Washington Veterans Home, at Retsil in Washington, Charles again Married. He married Maria Anna (Roos) Johnston. This union lasted until Charles death.

On 9 January 1966, at the age of ninety three, Charles passed away. He is buried in the Washington Veterans Home Cemetery, and was joined by his wife Maria in 1973.
