Mrs. Elizabeth Surfus, 87, formerly of 1303 N. 11th St., Manitowoc, died Sunday evening, Sept. 16, at Holy Family Hospital. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic Church. The Rev. Leo J. Schmitt will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Surfus, nee Elizabeth Schmidt, was born May 24, 1892, at Antigo, Wis., daughter of the late Jacob and Mary Stoer Schmidt. She was educated at Antigo, moving to Manitowoc in 1908. She was married to George Surfus Aug. 3, 1912, at Manitowoc, he preceded her in death June 25, 1940. Mrs. Surfus was a charter member of Holy Innocents Catholic Church and the Christian Mother's and Altar Society. Survivors include a son, George Surfus, Jr. of Manitowoc; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Grace and Kenneth Brachmann of Manitowoc, Mrs. Marie Chase of Rt. 2, Two Rivers, and Mae and Stanley Pozorski of Manitowoc; two brothers, Matt Schmidt of Milwaukee, Herman Schmidt of Gresham; 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, a brother, a sister, and two grandsons. Friends may oall (sic) at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and til the time of service on Wednesday. A parish prayer servioe (sic) will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening.
