HERBERT STECHMESSER

Herbert A. Stechmesser, 88, of 1610 Marshall St., Manitowoc, died Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 24, at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Gerald Schrankler will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Stechmesser, was born June 6, 1896, in the Town of Two Rivers, Manitowoc County, son of the late Herman and Frances Vogel Stechmesser. He married Jennie Allen in 1916, at Manitowoc, and she preceded him in death in 1935. He then arried (sic) Nettie Chouinard, July 1, 1944, at Manitowoc. Mr. Stechmesser was employed for the City of Manitowoc as a custodian in the school system, retiring in 1962. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Fraternal Order of Eagles of Two Rivers, a former member of the Manitowoc Marine Band for 35 years, a 61 year member and presently a honorary member of the Manitowoc Musicians Local 195 and leader of Stecky Orchestra for many years, retiring in 1960.
Survivors include his wife, Nettie, two sons, Herbert of Milwaukee and Allen of Portland, Oregon; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and George Brandt of Manitowoc; six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Chester, two sisters and seven brothers.
Friends may call at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of services. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Fund or the donors choice.
