Joe Senn
Des Moines

With heavy hearts we are announcing the death of our dad Joe Senn, Sr on Tuesday, April 5, 2010 while visiting his grandson in New Zealand, however, we are confident that our mom was eagerly awaiting his arrival in heaven and for that, we are truly grateful.
Joe Senn was born on February 8, 1935 to Art and Mary Senn. He graduated from Dowling High School and married his high school sweetheart shortly hereafter. He was a member of the Sheetmetal Workers Local 45 and spent 44 years in the sheet metal trade, retiring from National Sheet Metal in 1997. He created numerous sheet metal specialty fabrications, including the store front at Merle Hay Mall for the Artstore as well as lighthouses and birdhouses for family members during retirement.
Joe was the original "can do" man and tackled all tasks with great tenacity. As a young father he spent many years as a Cub Scout leader and girls softball coach for St. Joseph's School. He spent countless years involved in the Parish Council, School Board and Choir of St. Joseph's Church. Joe was avid golfer also enjoyed camping. Many years were spent traveling the Midwest while vacationing with the family in their pop-up trailer. Dad was also a loyal Cubs fan and a tried-and-true Dowling High School football supporter. In later years, Joe became involved in the Downtown Des Moines Farmer's Market as a vendor with his daughter as well as working on odd jobs with his sons and traveling with his children.
Joe was also a family man who, through his actions and words instilled the importance of family to all. Joe was a great peacemaker, always teaching the right way to an agreeable solution. Whatever will we do without one of your famous letters, Dad? Thank you for teaching us the importance of tolerance and understanding. Joe was truly a great dad and a great man!
We would like to thank Dr. Loren Brown and Dr. Richard Deming for their great care and concern for dad, as well as Nancy Belville for helping all of us along this journey.
Joe will be greatly missed by his children Joe Jr and wife Tami, Tom and wife Denise, Cathy and husband Brad, John and wife Carolyn, and Mimi with partner Tom. He leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as countless nieces and nephews. Joe is also survived by his brother Art Senn and sister Jackie Worden. We believe dad is now enjoying life reunited with his wife and twin daughters and await the day we will all be together again.
Please join us in celebrating Joe's life. Family will greet friends at Grandview Funeral Home on Wednesday, Apr 21, 2010 from 5:30 to 7:40 p.m. A rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held following morning at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with burial at Glendale Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at St. Joseph's Parish Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the Estate of Joe Senn to be given to Bright Kavanagh House in his name per his wishes.
