He was born at Unterriden, Hessen, Germany

07 June 1844, he arrived to America on board the brig "Copernicus" departed from Bremen, Germany, and arrived at the port at Baltimore, Maryland. He was 24 years old.

The Bremen Newspaper wrote: on July 1844:
"The Bremen ship COPERNICUS commanded by Captain Haesloop on the route from Bremen to Baltimore met on May 18, 1844 an ice field in position 46.50N; 46.42W where the Copernicus took on board Captain Robson and his crew ( 8 persons ) from the Brig PEACE which had been on the route from Bayonne to the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The PEACE had entered the ice field on May 9, 1844 and was damaged by the ice and sunk on May 13, 1844. Captain Robson and his men were very thankful for the rescue."

**We are CERTAIN Christian was aboard this vessel when the rescue occurred, because it usually took 40-53 days to cross the Atlantic, which means he would have probably left Bremen, Germany in late April 1844, arrived in Baltimore on June 7, 1844, making the vessel "at Sea" for the month of May 1844.

He purchased 7 acres in Tremont, Schuylkill County, where he had a farm.

Civil War Veteran:
1861, September 23, Enlisted in Co. B, of the 96th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers,( Pine Grove Sharpshooters). Transferred to 44th, 2nd Batt'n Veteran Res. Corps on 29 Oct 1863: Discharged on 22 Sept 1864. He served during the Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg Campaign. He was at Spottsylvania and Antietam, Right after that, he was sent to the U.S. General Hospital at Washington, D.C. I Don't know if he was wounded, But after his discharge he always walked with a limp and needed a cane. This was stated in the Affidavits that was filed by his wife and friends when they filed for pension for the two minor sons, John and George

He married first, Catherine Ramer/Roemer
He married second, Mary Anna Harman
He married third, Amanda Magdeline Alspach
