Word was received here Monday morning of the death of Mrs. F.W. Ruttman, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Freeman (Helen) Boynton, in Omaha. Mrs. Ruttman, 83, was a former Nelson resident, and early last Fall went to Omaha to live with her daughter.

Funeral services were held in the First Christian church in Nelson on Wednesday, May 5 at 1:30 p.m., with Victor Schwarz officiating.

Casket bearers were James Boynton, Gerald Boynton, Richard Boynton, Robert Boynton, Harold L. Ruttman and Gordon Ruttman.

Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery. The Klawitter Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Calla I. Ruttman was born March 5, 1882, at Elmwood, Nebraska, the daughter of Morgan and Elizabeth Cruzan. She passed away at the home of her daughter in Omaha on May 3, 1965, at the age of 83 years, 1 month and 28 days.

She was married to Frank Ruttman at Valparaiso, Nebraska, on May 11, 1904. To this union were born four children, Howard of Torrington, Wyoming; Helen of Omaha, Nebraska; Harold of Nelson and Hugh who died in World War II. The family moved from Valparaiso to the Nelson community 59 years ago.

Mrs. Ruttman was a member of the Nelson Christian Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband and son Hugh. In addition to her children, Howard, Helen and Harold, she is survived by 12 grandchildren, 5 of whom they raised, 27 great grandchildren, and one brother, Dr. J.V. Cruzan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Funeral services were held in the First Christian Church in Nelson on Wednesday, May 5, at 1:30 p.m., with Victor Schwarz officiating.

Boynton and Miss Elaine Boynton, all of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Don B. Goodrich and family of Fort Worth, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Hoins of Hays, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bossemeyer of Superior; Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Lipe of Waverly; Mrs. Anna Schoenleber, Mrs. John Schoenleber, Miss Florence Schoenleber and Mrs. Hjelmar Erickson, all of Lincoln.

This is for my "Grandma Ruttman" - who wasn't my Grandma. I had a well worn path to her backporch. She was a quilter, a gardener, a cookie-baker and a wonderful grandma substitute. It was years before I realized she wasn't my "real" Grandma!
