CANTON, IL - Melba L. Ashwood, 79, of 643 E. Walnut St. died at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at her residence.
She was born May 8, 1929, in Seville, Ill., to Curry and Feebee (Tillman) Rutledge. She married Kenneth L. Ashwood on Feb. 13, 1947, in Ipava, Ill. He died on Feb. 8, 1995.
She is survived by three daughters, Sheryl (Gerald) McCullough of Havana, Marsha (Alvin) Duckweiler of Paris, Ill., and Lori Haynes of Peoria; and one son, Kenneth K. (Verna) Ashwood of Canton. Also surviving are several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her parents, one daughter, Karen Ashwood, and six brothers preceded her in death.
Melba retired from Kroger, where she worked in the produce department.
She was a very loving and giving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed visits with her nephew, Sam Rutledge of Farmington, and niece, Pam Bulock of Orofino, Idaho.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held two hours prior. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.
Memorials may be made to the Graham Hospital Hospice.
