Agnes B. Rutledge, age 95, a resident of Grandview Acres in Toledo and formerly of Tama, died on Saturday, June 24, 2006 in Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center due to a short illness. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at 10:30 AM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Dewey Grimes officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2006 from 6-8 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Agnes B. Rutledge was born on February 26, 1911, in rural Elberon, Iowa, the daughter of John and Therese Macha Braye.
On June 15, 1936, she was united in marriage to James H. Rutledge in Rockford, Illinois.
She formerly worked at Mother's Kitchen and J.H. Neil Poultry House in Tama. Agnes was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She enjoyed canning, baking, sewing and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James in 1980; one sister, Anna Bliss; six brothers, Melvoy, Eddie, Johnny, Stanley, Emil and Freddie Braye.
Survivors include one daughter, Bessie (the late Dean) Knorr of Des Moines; one grandson, Gary (Linda) Knorr of North Liberty; one granddaughter, Linda Knorr of Las Vegas, NV; three great-grandchildren, Kari (Ryan) Lane of DeWitt, Tami (Pete) Diebel of Orlando, FL, and Zachary Knorr of North Liberty; two great-great grandchildren, Cole and Brook Lane; one brother, Leonard Braye of Hemet, CA; three sisters, Minnie Patrick of Tama, Mabel Van De Woestyne of Tama, and Rose Von Der Werth of Toledo; along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
