ERNEST RUTLEDGE DIES FOLLOWING AUTO WRECK

Ernest M. Rutledge, age 57, died at three o'clock Christmas morning in the Robert Long hospital, from injuries received in a two car accident at the Bartlett's Chapel T-crossing, east of Danville.
Two other persons were injured in the accident and taken to Indianapolis hospitals. Harold Templin, driver of the car in which Mr. Rutledge was a passenger, received injuries about the head. Morris Beasley, riding in the other car with his brother Everett Beasley, suffered a severed artery near the temple, as he was thrown into the windshield.
Sheriff Oscar Bradford who investigated the accident which occurred about 3:45 Tuesday evening, said Templin and Rutledge were returning to Danville from their work in Indianapolis, and that Everett Beasley, 945 Livingston, Indianapolis, crashed into the Templin car when turning east from the Bartlett's Chapel road toward Indianapolis. Both cars were completely demolished and the Templin car was turned over by the terrific impact. Sheriff Bradford said Everett Beasley would be arrested.
Three ambulances were called to the scene of the accident and the injured were rushed to the Long and City hospitals. Hubert Pointer, riding with Beasley, escaped serious injury.
Mr. Templin remains in the Long hospital. He suffers from an injured ankle and knee cap, and cuts and bruises.
Funeral services for Mr. Rutledge a lifelong resident of this community, will be held at the Baker Chapel at two o'clock Friday afternoon, with Rev. Ora McDaniel in charge.
Rutledge was born October 8, 1889, a son of William and Mary Jane Rutledge. He was married on June 28, 1911, to Pearl Mitchell. At the time of his death he was employed as a machinist in a Packard plant in Indianapolis. For years he was with the interurban line between Indianapolis and Peru.
Surviving with his widow, Pearl, are two daughters, Marjorie at home and Mrs. Ruby Patterson of Brownsburg; a brother, Charles A. Rutledge of Danville; and two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Phillips of Speedway and Mrs. Howard Pritchett, who lives north of Danville.

Documentation for change in birth date: "Indiana, U.S., WPA Birth Index, 1880-1920," shows his birth date as Oct 3, 1889.
