Shares monument with Mary Ann Miller Rutledge. Obviously there is some relationship, but not verified by this contributor at this time. The Rutledge family has some family history written, but not all relationships were explained in online sources at the time this memorial was originally entered.

This memorial updated March 23, 2016 with DOB and DOD information. These edits are being accepted, but with some caution. The DOD edit request is for Nov. 29, 1810. The inscription lists the age at death as being 68y 5m 18d, on May 17, 1879. In some online calculators that works out to a DOB of Nov. 11, 1810.
The death location edit is being accepted for Missouri, but the source of that information was not provided. It is possible that John died there and was brought back over the Missouri/Iowa border to this cemetery for burial, of course, the distance not necessarily that great.
The following message was also received to use on this memorial:
"John Miller Rutledge served as a private in Captain Abraham Lincoln's company of mounted volunteers in the Black Hawk War, 1832."
