Lula B. "Whitie" Allen, 84, of West, passed away Thursday, March 30, 2006, in Waco. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Aderhold funeral Home chapel, with Chaplain Ann Pennington officiating. Burial will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery near West. The family will receive visotors from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Lula was born in Travis County, Texas, to the late Antone and Julia (Sakewitz) Rust and she attended schools in New Sweden. On June 19, 1943, she married Winford W. Allen in Galveston. They moved to the West area in 1946 and began to raise their three children.
Whitie was a salesperson for the JC Penney Department Store in Galveston, the White Auto Store, and Keen's Store in West. She loved to cook and worked for Heitmiller's Restaurant and several cafés, including working as the manager of the Tip Top Café in West. Whitie enjoyed bingo, family reunions, and cooking where she was known for her delicious chicken and dumplings, cream pies and sweet rice. Whitie was a member of the First United Church in West.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Winford, on May 10, 1986; son, Danny W. Allen; brother, Roydell Rust; and sister, Waldine Sabella.
Survivors include daughters, Gayle Mashek and husband, Sammy, Linda Girard and husband, Johnny, all of Eddy; grandchildren, Melissa Sumerour, Marc Mashek, Jeremy Girard, Justin Girard and Jay Allen; great-grandchildren, Lauryn Allen, Macy Allen, Colby Brooke and Jake Girard; sisters, Florine Weiss, Grace Farris, and Janelle Williams, all of Austin; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
