MRS. COOK RITES HELD SATURDAY

Died Last Thursday Morning at Home on Elm Street; 73 Years Old

Final rites for Mrs. Charles Cook, 73, life-long resident of Clay county, were held from the First Baptist church Saturday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. W. C. Deer officiating. Interment was in Bluff View cemetery under the direction of the Elmore Funeral Service. Mrs. Cook was a member of the Baptist church and had always taken an active interest in its work when her health permitted.

Her death occured at their home on Elm street last Thursday forenoon. It was caused by complications from which she had been suffering for some time.

Sabra Ann Russell, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Russell, was probably the first white girl born in this county and one of the first white children born in the state. Her parents were married across the river in Nebraska, while awaiting for the opening up of this territory for filing, the mother coming from Ohio and her father from Pennsylvania. They filed on a homestead just north of what is now Vermillion in 1860. December 3, 1861, Sabra Ann was born.

The immediate relatives surviving are the husband and two daughters, Mrs. Clevie Peterson and Mrs. Hattie Martin. Both daughters reside in Vermillion.

Pallbearers at the funeral were Will Collar, P.F. Cavanaugh, Will Russell, Sr., Robert Spensley, James Partridge, and A.C. McDonald, all friends for many years of the family.
