Peggy was the daughter of William Russell (b.1740, d.1802) and Jane Black (b.1738, d.1847) who were born in Donegal, Ireland and died in PA. Her siblings were: William, Thomas, Mary, Sarah and James Russell.
The census reports of 1840 & 1850 show her living alone in Marion Township, Butler Co., PA; but next door to her son Robert and his family.
Margaret Russell was Robert Atwell's second wife. His first wife died during the birth of their first child.
Peggy and Robert had seven children they named: Ellen, William, George, John, James, Robert and Mary Atwell. In 1816 the family relocated to Marion Township, Butler Co., PA; they cleared their own land and lived there until they died.
My (Jack Gilchrist) ancestors, The Critchlow family of Pennsylvania, were decended from Robert's first wife's single offspring, Dickson Atwell (b.1800, d.1881) and often referred to the children born to Margaret "Peggy" as the "Other Atwell's". These Atwell's were also farmers until they struck oil and became quite well to do.
Peggy was a member of the Associate Reformed Church which at the time was called the Seceder Church.
In 1816 he relocated his family to Marion Township, Butler County, PA; cleared his own land and lived there until his death.
