G.F. RUSSELL DIES;FORMER DYER MAYOR
HEART ATTACK FATAL AT HOME OF DAUGHTER
George F. Russell, 85 died of a heart attack at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Paul Henderson, of Halls, TN Saturday night while reading the newspaper. He had been ill several years.
Mr. Russell had been in the mercantile business here for more than 60 years, until ill health forced his retirement. He served as mayor of Dyer during World War I and for several years thereafter, and his administration was marked by many civic improvements. He had been chairman of the Board of Stewards of the First Methodist Church, Worshipful Master of Dyer Masonic Lodge, head of the Odd Fellows and president and secretary of Oakwood Cemetery Assoc. He taught Sunday School for many years.
Mr. Russell was married to Miss Katherine Dickson, who preceded him in death several years ago.
Funeral services were held on Monday, at 2 P M at the First Methodist Church with Rev. J Mack Jenkins officiating, assisted by Rev B F Warren and Rev F W Gillespie.
Besides his daughter, Mrs. Henderson, he is survived by three brothers, Robert Russell of Atlanta, Ga., Rev. Asa Russell of Whitevill, Tn. and Mack Russell of Memphis, TN
