Riverton, KS: Nellie C. Russell, age 97, returned to her heavenly home at 7:35 am Tuesday Jan 25, 2011.
She leaves behind her five generations of children who will miss her greatly, but are comforted by her legacy of love.
Nellie was born in Galena, Kansas on April 8, 1913, the youngest child of Samuel and Missouri Archer.
She married Harold Claude Russell on August 24, 1935 and had sixty-three years of wonderful companionship with him, raising three fine children and keeping a beautiful home.
Nellie was a fine cook, seamstress, and gardener, and was famous for her wonderful lemon meringue pies and beautiful quilts, but her greatest joy in life was her family.
After her children were grown, she also worked outside the home at Halligan's clothing store in Baxter Springs, Kansas and was also a knowledgeable collector of fine antiques.
Nellie was a resident of Riverton, Kansas for the past fifty years and was a member of the First Christian Church of Baxter Springs.
Survivors include her son Harold Raye Russell and his wife Billie, Carolyn Sue Price and her husband Jack, 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold and daughter Barbara Nelle.
Visitation will be held on Thursday January 27, 2011 from 7-8 PM at Derfelt Funeral Home in Galena, KS.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, January 28t, 2011 at Derfelt Funeral Home Galena, KS. Pastor Dave Robinson will officiate.
Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery Galena, KS.
Pallbearers will be David Price, Steve Russell, Larry North, Logan North, Russ Weiss, and Louis Russell.
