He was born Dec. 16, 1920, in rural Donahue. On Feb. 21, 1943, he married Doris Kearney in Davenport. She preceded him in death in 1991. On April 16, 1994, he married Ruth Golden in Davenport.
Mr. Runge farmed on the family farm, which has remained in family ownership from 1849 to the present day, completing four generations. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. His hobbies included gardening, fishing, woodcarving, crossword puzzles, and he enjoyed writing poetry.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; children, Marvin (Pat) Runge and Willetta (Tim) Trenkle; grandchildren, Kymberly (Larry) Graham, Lisa (Troy) Anderson, and Brad (Nancy) Gradin; and great-grandchildren, Jared, Moriah, Elisha and Jesse Graham, Isaac and Hannah Payne, and Alix and Emma Gradin. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Albert L. and Malinda (Rohwer) Runge; and a sister, Alberta.
