Lydia Heifort, 89, of Battle Lake died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.
She was born on March 23, 1918 in Rush City, MN the daughter of Lewis and Lydia (Pino) Rumpel. She attended rural school by Rush City and then attended the Minnesota School for the Deaf, graduating in 1941.
Lydia and Herman E. Heifort were married on June 29, 1942 in Stillwater. After their marriage they lived in Stillwater for a number of years before moving to the Clitherall area. In 1950, they built a home on a farm by Clitherall. Herman passed away on May 27, 1960. In 1977 Lydia moved into her home in Battle Lake, where she lived until entering the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center in June of 2000. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, game shows on TV, bingo and any activities involving the deaf. She was a member of the deaf organization and the Nidaros Lutheran Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruby (Ron) Moen of Battle Lake and Ruth Aune of Duluth, MN; five sons, Herman Heifort of Staples, MN, Earl (Dianne) Heifort and LeRoy (Cherie) Heifort all of Clitherall, Paul (Sue) Heifort of St. Paul, MN and Carl Heifort of Homer, AK; 30 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Ethel Heifort, of Rogers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; one sister, Helen Dombrock; four brothers, Daniel, Lewis, Frederick and Walter Rumpel.
Visitation: Friday from 4 to 7 p.m with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home
Service: 3 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Nidaros Lutheran Church, rural Clitherall
