Ethel Rumley Hamblin, 86, of 2100 Fulton Street, Bluefield, W.Va., and formerly of Pearisburg, Va., passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2010, while a resident of RidgeCare in Princeton, W.Va. Born on July 30, 1923, in Mount Airy, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Raska R. Rumley and Lucy Farley Rumley. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Clinton Rumley, Roby Rumley and Alfred Rumley; sister, Lois Schuknecht; and great-grandchild, Odessa Altizer. She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Judy Sandridge, of Glen Lyn, Va.; sons, Dennis Hamblin and wife, Beverly, of Dublin, Va., and Rodney Hamblin and wife, Cathy, of Bluefield, W.Va.; grandchildren, Robert McGuire, Dennis McGuire, Diane McGuire, Sherry Kelley, Aaron Hamblin, Ashlee Rostine, Micah Hamblin, Shannon Baldwin, Caleb Hamblin, Hope Hamblin, and Courtney Hamblin; great-grandchildren, Christy and Anthony Altizer, Alvin, Ryan and Christina McGuire, Holly Perfater, Heidi Lopez, Heather Ferrell, Kylene, Josephine, and Charlie Hamblin, Benjamin and Andrew Baldwin, and soon to be born Jackson Rostine; and great-great-grandchildren, Savannah and Skylar Wilson, and Alyssia Lopez. She leaves behind many other friends and relatives.
She was retired from Celanese with over 40 years of service. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bluefield, W.Va. She was formerly a member of Ingram Village United Methodist Church and Faith Temple in Pearisburg, Va. She enjoyed her church, family, crocheting, and working in her flowerbeds. She was known by all to be such a hardworking and giving person. Until the last few years, she was able to live a full and active life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Saturday evening, April 3, 2010, from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 4, 2010, from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Eddie Johnson officiating. Graveside services will follow at 4:30 p.m. at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, Va., where family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions, if desired, be made to the First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1225 Lyndale Ave., Bluefield, W.Va. 24701. Those wishing to share memories or condolence messages with the family may do so at Mercer Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the family of Mrs. Ethel R. Hamblin.
