Emma VENUS
Mrs. Charles Ruegnitz passed away at the home of her son Fred, at Webster City, last Saturday afternoon, December 5th, after an extended illness. She was sixty-three years, two months and seven days old.
Some five years ago she was stricken with paralysis and largely recovered, but some of the effects lingered and gradually grew worse. Three years ago, with her daughter Emma, she moved to Davenport, but as her illness became more serious she was taken to the home of her son Fred, in Webster City.
Emma Venus was born near Communia, Clayton County, Iowa, September 28th, 1851. Here she remained until her marriage with Karl [sic] Ruegnitz on Dec. 15th, 1872. After living in Clayton ten years the couple moved to Elkader, where Mr. Ruegnitz died on May 25th, 1902.
Those left to mourn the deceased are one daughter Emma, who was always with her mother; two sons, Fred, of Webster City, Iowa, and Dr. Louis, of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Luers and Mrs. Lena Liers, both of Clayton. Another sister, Mrs. George Meyer, died two years ago.
Mrs. Ruegnitz was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her and many warm friends here sorrow at her death. She was an active member of the German church, its Sunday School and the Frauen Verein.
Her remains were brought here Monday morning and at two o'clock services were held in the German church, Rev. Franke officiating. Interment was in the East Side cemetery.
