Birth: 1921
Death: 2003

Joyce Marjorie (Rude) Boehlke, 81, 3300 London Rd., Eau Claire, left to be with her Heavenly Father and her beloved husband, Dick, on Thursday, July 10, 2003. After a series of strokes, Joyce died at home surrounded with the love of her children and music.

Joyce was born August 3, 1921, in Eau Claire to Nordahl and Anna Rude. She married Revelle (Dick) on September 12, 1943. They celebrated over 50 years of marriage before his death in 1994.

Through her music and her laughter she gave joy to many. As a member of First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire and Concordia Lutheran Church in Phoenix, Joyce devoted much of her time to singing in the choirs and sharing her special gifts from God through solos.

Joyce’s name means joy and rejoicing and these words fit her well. She was famous for her wonderful smiles, hugs, and kisses. She enjoyed giving generously to all. Thinking of Joyce always makes people smile — a wonderful legacy.

Joyce and Dick moved to Phoenix in 1968, then returned to Eau Claire in 1985, upon Dick’s retirement. After retirement Joyce and Dick traveled to many places and even visited the Panama Canal.

Joyce’s life was full. She leaves behind many people who will love her memory forever. They include three daughters and one son, all of Eau Claire, Janet (Clarence) Hadt, Mary Boehlke, Nancy (Gary) Ellis, and William (Laurie) Boehlke; seven grandchildren, Mark (Mariannick) Hadt, Kris (Joel) Woodruff, Peter (Leslie) Hadt, Julie (Jesse) Rhode, Nancy Gilbert, Richard (Kirsten) Ellis, and Wendy Ellis; four great-grandchildren, Mitchel, Nadine, Logan, and Jada; two sisters, Arline Rude and Gloria (Walter) Potthoff; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her loyal and lifelong friend, Donna Engan, and special cousins, Jim and Ione Wahl.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, John and Julius Rude.

Funeral services will be at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2003, at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Arne Peterson officiating. Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Chapel and one half-hour prior to the service at the church.
